Phil Denton Trophy
PHIL DENTON TROPHY EVENT – SUNDAY 20TH SEPTEMBER, 2009
Are you and your dog ‘good all rounders??’
Do you combine obedience training with agility and retrieve??
Do you think you’re capable of competing and beating the competition in the long-awaited return of our Phil Denton Award to be held on 20th September this year???
If so, please register your interest as soon as possible so that we can assess the numbers involved. Please note that the due to the nature of the events detailed below, the weather must be at least dry (if not warm!) so any inclement weather may necessitate the event being postponed… but fingers crossed we should achieve a reasonable day as its still only late summer!
Watch out for the posters and entry lists in on the notice board over the coming weeks.
The event comprises of 4 categories:
- A round of obedience to include on and off lead heel work.
- Drop on recall within a boxed area
- Mini agility course
- Retrieval of a dumbell over a hurdle
Kevin Horn is providing training on these exercises during the 2nd half of obedience training each Sunday, leading up to the event. If you wish to join in, instead of returning to your own class after the coffee break, just let your instructor know.
Phil Denton was a popular and hard working member of our branch some 20 years ago. Phil and his dog Kaiser ‘had a go’ at all aspects of obedience and agility and in those days, agility training was on Tuesday evening. It was during one such session that Phil suffered a fatal heart attack. His funeral was attended by many club members and the ‘Phil Denton Trophy’ was donated by friends and family in memory of a special member and his dog.
